ROUTE FILE 03 / TRANSFER

Keep the connection moving.

Stations and airports are useful anchors, but “near” is not the same as “inside”. Plan the handoff, the return and the buffer.

Travel bags in a bright transport interchange

Connection days create a particular luggage problem: you have somewhere to be, but not always somewhere to leave your bags. Map the complete movement from arrival platform or terminal to storage, then from storage to your next departure point.

Railway stations

Large stations often have several entrances, concourses and platform groups. A storage point beside one entrance may be a significant walk from another. Check the station map, allow for lifts and stairs, and consider whether you must pass through a ticketed area. Collect comfortably before boarding.

Airport terminals and surroundings

Airport storage rules vary by location and may be subject to screening or local restrictions. An airport-area venue can be outside the terminal and require a bus, train or walk. Do not assume an airport label means terminal-side access.

Early arrivals and late departures

Compare collection windows with your actual itinerary. An early arrival needs a handoff that is open when you land. A late departure needs a realistic return route after a day in the city. Current opening hours and policies change by provider and location.

Oversized bags and restrictions

Pushchairs, musical instruments, sports equipment and very large cases may be excluded or require separate arrangements. Security restrictions can also apply to batteries, hazardous materials, food or other items. Keep passports, medication and essential travel documents accessible.

Connection-day method

  1. Write down arrival platform or terminal, storage address and departure point.
  2. Measure the real route, including transfers and likely queues.
  3. Check collection requirements, operating window and identification.
  4. Leave a buffer for delays and returning to the correct platform.
  5. Keep the reference, address and provider contact details offline.

Good for

Train changes, long layovers, early check-in gaps and journeys where returning to accommodation would be wasteful.

What to know

Transport-facility rules are location-specific. This guide does not confirm provider policies or opening hours.

Ask: does this storage point reduce movement, or add another transfer? If it adds complexity, a city-centre option on the way to your next leg may be better. Compare destination shapes →
